Lincoln was asking me what my very first job was. I told him I used to babysit, but he said, no your first real job. So I told him about my days as a meter maid. Seriously...
My 8th grade science teacher, Mr. Parker, hired me to be his "scribe" while he read the water meter. I would walk next to him with this big, huge book and write down the number in the log. Sometimes I even had to jump down into the hole, with the flashlight to read the meter.
I'm thinking he did this to supplement his income. I worked for him on Saturdays and eventually weekdays in the summer. Pretty soon I worked my way up to became the "reader". I carried this big tool around called the "key". It kinda looked like the tool you used to use to turn your sprinklers on. Apparently, this was my first real working experience. He paid me 10 cents per meter. It was pretty good money. And all cash.
The real point of my story is this:
In the summer, I used to wake up, put on some base (make-up) and head out. Literally, that was all I put on my face. After a while, he offered to take me to his daughter, who was a beautician, to give me some tips about make-up! Mr. Parker was probably 60 years old. I was a little offended but took him up on the offer. So he takes me into Ogden to his daughter's salon and she was...let's say...a rocker chick?! She had long permy hair, nails a mile long, tatooes, caked-on make-up and a short-short skirt. I was scared. I was 14. I mean, I think his intentions were good, but whoa!
I think what I had goin on wasn't so bad.

Hi 2009!
I won't bore you with my resolutions, but I assure you there are many.
We had a great Christmas and a wonderful New Year.
I'm glad to be back to our schedule.
I'm looking forward to all 2009 has to offer.
Back to my Five:
1. My new purse and wallet. (It makes me happy when I see the soft, flowery inside of the wallet.)
2. "The Hunger Games". A good book, but not for everyone.
3. Apple Dumplings. Sinful.
4. Hooking up with old friends over the holidays!
5. A new, clean slate. A fresh start.

Top Ten Things I've Learned While Employed By UPS...
10. I never used to notice when people didn't shovel their walkway.
9. Some people are friendly and some people are not friendly. I prefer the former. (you know who you are Mr. Custodian at Bingham High School).
8. I have an extremely unhealthy relationship with Maverik. For example, Shawn loves this one item that is one extremely huge and thick hot dog wrapped in a croussant. I can't take more than one bite and feel good about myself.
7. I am not a whiner.
6. What I can accomplish and what I think I can accomplish are too very different things. I can do hard things!
5. You can get a whiff of someone's house, without them opening the door.
4. I've discovered three more "faces" of Shawn:
Work Shawn: Fun guy.
Wednesday Shawn: (the busiest day of the week at UPS): Not-so-fun guy.
Christmas Shawn: (Wednesday Shawn x10)
(you can't blame the guy, 250 stops in one day!!!)
3. I still do, and always will have, chivalry in my marriage (nothing over 20lb!)
2. My husband works very hard for our family. I truly appreciate that now. Hope this makes up for #4! You know I love you!
1. I used to love the color brown.
p.s. Number of times I've bit the dust: 3
Number of times Shawn witnessed said falls: 0

did I hear brown is the new black?
I didn't think so.
so here I am.
In my browns.
for all the blogging world to see!
For those of you who don't know,
I am Shawn's "runner" for the holiday season,
which means he drives the truck while I "run" the packages.
(This way I will actually get to see the husby during the holidays)
We have been having way too much fun.
I'm so glad I did it!
